When you think about Christmas centerpieces, chances are you probably think of Christmas centerpieces made out of holly berries or poinsettia plants. However, it is important to not that many Christmas centerpieces have nothing to do with flowers.
Christmas Centerpieces Can be Made Out of Pottery
It might seem incredulous that holiday centerpieces can be actual pieces of pottery, but it really is possible. In fact, you can make any pottery Christmas centerpieces all the more special by making them yourself!
If you think that making your own pottery Christmas centerpieces seems a fun idea, then the first thing that you will need to do is register for a pottery class. Pottery classes can be taken in a variety of different places. However, the most popular place for aspiring potters to take a class would be the local community college.
It should also be noted that the cost of a pottery class is generally not inexpensive. You will most likely have to pay for various sculpting materials, as well as securing a spot in the class. When it comes to figuring out what class to sign up for, make sure you choose a beginner's class.
In the beginner's class, you will find out how to make basic kinds of pottery such as bowls and vases. If, for example, you would like to make a vase as the centerpiece for the holiday table, that can easily be done if you are interested in glazing the pottery.
Glazing really is not a very difficult thing to do. In fact, if you can paint, you can glaze. Once the vase has been sculpted, you will have to let it set for an hour or so, and then apply the glaze. For the purpose of a Christmas theme, you would do well to select the colors red and green.
Take the glaze, which is surprisingly clear, and apply it in the manner that you would like to see the color appear once the vase is done. All you have to do is take a small brush and paint it as if you were painting a ceramic piece.
Once the glaze has been applied, all you have to do is gently place the vase in the kiln. The kiln is a special stove for heating pottery, thus setting the glaze and drying the vase. However, if the kiln is too hot, the pottery will become too dry and break. So, once the vase has been carefully prepared, the next step is carefully transporting it home, and it will make a beautiful centerpiece!
