Christmas is such a fun holiday for children. Of course, the fun for them is in the form of all the presents they get. However, as they get older they will see how it is really supposed to be about spending quality time with loved ones. Begin teaching them the importance of loved ones by having them participate in Christmas table décor projects.
Christmas Table Décor: The Many Ideas That Are Available
The first thing you have to do is gather your children together and inform them that they are going to be making some homemade Christmas decorations. This will probably be enough to get them excited, but if you need to give them further incentive, tell them that the first Christmas table décor project will have to do with popcorn.
For this Christmas table décor project, begin by popping some popcorn. It is important to note that the popcorn should not be buttered! Rather, just use plain microwavable popcorn, or just pop plain popcorn in a little oil and then wash off any residual oil from the popcorn.
Once the popcorn for this Christmas table décor is dried, get out some disposable plastic gloves, cover a table with newspaper, and have the children change into play clothes. Get out some green and red acrylic paint, as well as some small paint brushes.
Now, alternating between red and green, have the children paint each popcorn kernel. When all of them have been painted, set them aside to dry. Once they have thoroughly dried, the next step in this Christmas table décor project is something that you should do yourself for safety reasons.
Take a needle and some thread, and one by one string the pieces of popcorn (again alternating colors) until you have a long string. Once the string is done, simply fix it with some clear adhesive tape around the table, and the result is a festive table skirt!
For more information on various Christmas table décor projects that you can do with your children, go to your local bookstore first. There are many books on children's crafts that can be adapted for the holidays!
Another option is to search the internet. Indeed, there are many Christmas themed websites that can provide you with projects that you can tailor and make table decorations. Another option is to check out the various home decorating magazines during the holiday season. The pictures from the magazine might give you further holiday decorating ideas!
